Horror stories

It’s just what we DON’T do!

Horror stories are when we find things other shops have done so wrong, we just can’t comprehend. Horror stories avoided are when we are fortunate enough to have taken it far enough apart to find something lurking. This is a section on both. Home mechanics, we hope this can show why to go the extra step and what you should be out to look for!

Alternator trouble

A tube is missing. It’s the beginning of a horror story and it goes like this; A mechanic obviously didn’t know what to do with the alternator cooling boot after he couldn’t place it where it’s supposed to be, on the alternator… But you couldn’t do that if you install the alternator backwards! This couldn’t be someone just not knowing what they’re doing, it’s someone who simply put, doesn’t care! After installing the alternator the wrong direction, instead of going back to fix it, this guy took the cooling boot and well, just threw it in the battery tray! Job well done dude! NOT! Yup, we have the invoice from the work and if you want similar, go Polk yourself! (did I mean poke?)
Whatever, It’s just NOT what we do!

Cracked …

And this is why it’s better to go the extra mile. This is a horror story, or tragedy nearly avoided! (There’s a Dead song something like this…) Well, the extra hour to go in and grease something that should be greased as maintenance touches on ye ‘ol pocket book but once, but it certainly helped save that future weekend and hurt feelings! This gal had lived the life, fought the fight! We are sure to change her out and call her a unsung hero thus far. A crack in the shaft doesn’t go away on it’s own, and it doesn’t show itself until uncovered or literally snapping apart. The tragedy avoided with this one is a trip back to Church on the back of a Flat _ Bed truck to have the engine out again! Catching stuff early in the eye of the maintenance anyhow, It’s just what we do!
